Cups to Grams Converter
Turn any cup amount into grams. Type a number or a fraction like 1 1/2 or 2/3, then pick the ingredient.
Tip: Spoon flour into the cup and level it with a knife. Scooping straight from the bag packs in up to 30 g extra.
To convert cups to grams, multiply the number of cups by the ingredient's weight per cup. One US cup is about 125 g of all-purpose flour, 200 g of granulated sugar, 220 g of packed brown sugar, 227 g of butter and 244 g of milk. So 1 ½ cups of sugar is 1.5 × 200 = 300 g.

How to convert cups to grams
grams = cups × grams per cup
Every ingredient has its own weight per cup, because a cup measures volume and some ingredients are denser or more tightly packed than others. Multiply by the right number and you get the weight. The chart below has the results for the cup sizes in a standard US measuring set.
Converting a whole recipe
- Go through the ingredient list and convert each cup amount with the converter or the chart.
- Write the grams next to each ingredient.
- Next time, put your bowl on a kitchen scale, press tare, and add each ingredient by weight. It’s faster and there are fewer cups to wash.
Spoon amounts under ¼ cup, like baking powder or salt, are usually easier to keep in teaspoons and tablespoons. For those, see grams to tablespoons.
