Milk Grams to Cups
1 cup of milk weighs about 244 grams. It holds 236.6 ml, but milk is a little heavier than water, so the grams come out slightly higher than the milliliters.
Tip: Use a liquid measuring cup on a flat counter and read it at eye level.
One US cup of whole milk weighs about 244 g (USDA) and holds 236.6 ml. To convert grams of milk to cups, divide by 244, so 122 g = ½ cup. For milk, measuring by volume in a liquid measuring cup is accurate, so you only need grams when a recipe gives them.

How to measure milk accurately
- Use a clear liquid measuring cup with a spout, not a dry measuring cup.
- Set it on a flat counter.
- Pour, then bend down so your eyes are level with the line. Looking down from above makes it easy to overfill.
Whole, 2%, skim and plant milks
Whole, reduced-fat and skim milk weigh within a couple of grams per cup of each other, so use 244 g for all of them. Plant milks like oat, almond and soy are close to water, around 240 g per cup. Buttermilk is about the same as milk. Evaporated and condensed milk are much heavier, so check the can if a recipe gives grams.
